Systematisk granskning av antagande [1] och analys av subventionsstruktur [2][3] visar konsekvent att policy är en dominerande drivkraft — vilket är ett annat sätt att säga att samma bil är ett annat ekonomiskt förslag beroende på var den är registrerad.
Policyeffekter på EV-antagande
Nätets intensitet är emissionsvariabeln
En elbil lämnar fabriken med en koldioxidskuld från batteritillverkning och betalar tillbaka den över avstånd genom att släppa ut mindre vid användning. Hur snabbt den betalar tillbaka beror nästan helt på den elektricitet den drar. På ett lågt koldioxidnät är brytpunktsavståndet kort; på ett kolintensivt är det mycket längre.
Två asymmetrier gynnar elbilen oavsett. Nät avkarboniseras över tid, så bilen blir renare under sin livslängd medan en förbränningsbil inte gör det. Incitament förändras snabbt
Köpsubventioner, momsbehandling, beskattning av tjänstebilar, vägskattebefrielser, tillgång till städer och parkeringsprivilegier varierar mellan länder och flera förändras årligen. Allt som publiceras om dem har en kort hållbarhet, vilket är anledningen till att denna webbplats behandlar dem som data som ska uppdateras snarare än som prosa som ska skrivas en gång.
