Sistematski pregled usvajanja [1] i analiza strukture subvencija [2][3] dosledno nalaze da je politika dominantni faktor — što je još jedan način da se kaže da je isti automobil drugačija finansijska ponuda u zavisnosti od mesta gde je registrovan.

Uticaji politike na usvajanje EV-a

Intenzitet mreže je varijabla emisija

Električni automobil napušta fabriku sa dugom u ugljen-dioksidu zbog proizvodnje baterija, i otplaćuje je tokom vožnje emitovanjem manje tokom korišćenja. Koliko brzo otplaćuje zavisi gotovo isključivo od električne energije koju koristi. Na mreži sa niskim emisijama, udaljenost do tačke isplativosti je kratka; na mreži bogatoj ugljem je mnogo duža.

Dve asimetrije favorizuju EV bez obzira na sve. Mreže se dekarbonizuju tokom vremena, tako da automobil postaje čistiji tokom svog životnog ciklusa dok automobil sa unutrašnjim sagorevanjem to ne čini. Podsticaji se brzo menjaju

Subvencije za kupovinu, tretman PDV-a, oporezivanje automobila kompanija, izuzeća od putarine, pristup gradu i privilegije parkiranja variraju od zemlje do zemlje i nekoliko se menja godišnje. Sve što je objavljeno o njima ima kratak rok trajanja, zbog čega ova stranica tretira te podatke kao podatke koje treba osvežiti, a ne kao prozu koja se piše jednom.

Национални оператери мреже и Европска агенција за животну средину објављују те податке, често у реалном времену.
