La revisió sistemàtica de l'adopció [1] i l'anàlisi de l'estructura de subvencions [2][3] troben consistentment que la política és un motor dominant — que és una altra manera de dir que el mateix cotxe és una proposta financera diferent depenent de on estigui registrat.

Efectes de la política sobre l'adopció de vehicles elèctrics

La intensitat de la xarxa és la variable d'emissions

Un cotxe elèctric surt de la fàbrica amb un deute de carboni per la fabricació de la bateria, i el retorna al llarg de la distància emetent menys en ús. Quina velocitat té per retornar-ho depèn gairebé totalment de l'electricitat que consumeix. En una xarxa de baix carboni, la distància d'equilibri és curta; en una de pesada en carbó és molt més llarga.

Dues asimetries afavoreixen el vehicle elèctric independentment. Les xarxes es descarbonitzen amb el temps, així que el cotxe es torna més net al llarg de la seva vida mentre que un cotxe de combustió no ho fa. I el comportament de càrrega importa — la càrrega nocturna sovint coincideix amb una generació de menor carboni. Els incentius canvien ràpidament

Les subvencions d'adquisició, el tractament de l'IVA, la tributació dels cotxes d'empresa, les exempcions d'impostos de circulació, l'accés a ciutats i els privilegis d'aparcament varien segons el país i diversos canvien anualment. Qualsevol cosa publicada sobre ells té una vida útil curta, que és per això que aquest lloc els tracta com a dades a actualitzar en comptes de com a prosa a escriure una sola vegada.

Quin és el millor país per tenir un vehicle elèctric?
Depèn de quina variable prioritzeu. La baixa intensitat de la xarxa, l'electricitat domèstica barata, la càrrega densa i la fiscalitat generosa rarament coincideixen en un mateix lloc.
La intensitat de la xarxa realment canvia la resposta?
Canvia la magnitud de l'avantatge i la distància de llindar de rendibilitat. Per a pràcticament totes les xarxes europees, la resposta encara afavoreix el vehicle elèctric.
Val la pena esperar els incentius?
Canvien sovint i tant a l'alça com a la baixa. Comprar esperant un programa futur que es rumoreja és una aposta.
