Systematický prehľad prijatia [1] a analýza štruktúry dotácií [2][3] konzistentne zistili, že politika je dominantným faktorom — čo je iný spôsob, ako povedať, že to isté auto predstavuje iný finančný návrh v závislosti od toho, kde je registrované.

Intenzita siete je premenná emisií
Elektrické auto opúšťa továreň s uhlíkovým dlhom z výroby batérií a spláca ho počas jazdy tým, že pri používaní emituje menej. Ako rýchlo ho spláca, závisí takmer výlučne od elektriny, ktorú čerpá. Na nízkouhlíkovej sieti je hranica rentability krátka; na sieti s vysokým podielom uhlia je oveľa dlhšia.
Dve asymetrie uprednostňujú EV bez ohľadu na to. Siete sa v priebehu času dekarbonizujú, takže auto sa počas svojej životnosti čistí, zatiaľ čo spaľovacie auto nie. Stimuly sa rýchlo menia
