Quattro variabili, ognuna che varia di diversi ordini di grandezza in Europa, e insieme contano di più per la tua esperienza di possesso rispetto a quale auto hai scelto.

La revisione sistematica dell'adozione [1] e l'analisi della struttura dei sussidi [2][3] trovano costantemente che la politica è un motore dominante — il che è un altro modo di dire che la stessa auto è una proposta finanziaria diversa a seconda di dove è registrata.
Effetti delle politiche sull'adozione dei veicoli elettrici
L'intensità della rete è la variabile delle emissioni
Un'auto elettrica esce dalla fabbrica con un debito di carbonio derivante dalla produzione della batteria e lo ripaga nel tempo percorrendo meno in uso. Quanto velocemente lo ripaga dipende quasi interamente dall'elettricità che consuma. Su una rete a basse emissioni di carbonio la distanza di pareggio è breve; su una rete a base di carbone è molto più lunga.
Due asimmetrie favoriscono comunque il veicolo elettrico. Le reti si decarbonizzano nel tempo, quindi l'auto diventa più pulita durante la sua vita mentre un'auto a combustione no. E il comportamento di ricarica conta — la ricarica notturna spesso coincide con una generazione a basse emissioni di carbonio. Gli incentivi cambiano rapidamente
I sussidi all'acquisto, il trattamento IVA, la tassazione delle auto aziendali, le esenzioni fiscali sui veicoli, l'accesso alle città e i privilegi di parcheggio variano da paese a paese e diversi cambiano annualmente. Qualsiasi cosa pubblicata su di essi ha una breve durata, motivo per cui questo sito li tratta come dati da aggiornare piuttosto che come testi da scrivere una sola volta.
